STATION FOSSAN

Author: Dee Garretson
Series: Torch World #1
Publisher: Month9Books
Publication Date: February 14, 2017

Summary:
Earth scientists and their families stationed on the remote planet of Fosaan were promised a tropical vacation-like experience. But Fosaan, devastated from an apocalyptic event nearly three-hundred years ago, is full of lethal predators and dangerous terrain.

Earthers are forbidden to go beyond the safety zone of their settlement and must not engage the small population of reclusive Fosaanians, descendants of the survivors. Sixteen-year-old Quinn Neen plans to do both of those things.

When Quinn discovers a beautiful Fosaanian girl named Mira stealing food from his family’s living unit, he soon learns Earth’s government may not be telling the whole truth about Fosaan and the cause of the past disaster.

There are some who to restore the planet to its former glory by any means necessary. Quinn finds himself caught between his loyalty to his own people and what is right for Mira and her people.

Before he can decide what to do, the scientists are taken captive, stranding the young Earthers on Fosaan.

Quinn must go from renegade to leader and convince Mira to become an ally in a fight against an enemy whose very existence threatens their lives and the future of those both on Fosaan and at home.

Why You Love Your Cover

I love looking at book covers and I have to admit it’s hard for me NOT to judge a book by its cover. Authors anxiously await the first view of their covers, worrying the cover artist won’t capture the right feel for the book. I was therefore ecstatic when I saw my covers. They are perfect for the stories.

Blog Tour: EMBERS IN THE SEA by Jennifer M. Eaton // #CoverReveal + #Excerpt + #Giveaway

16 December 3 Comments

Today Jennifer M. Eaton and Month9Books are revealing the cover and first chapter for EMBERS IN THE SEA, the third book in the FIRE IN THE WOODS series which releases January 31, 2017! Check out the gorgeous cover and enter to be one of the first readers to receive a eGalley!!

A quick note from the author:

Fire in the Woods has been an incredible journey for me. In book one, Jess and David raced through the woods of New Jersey. In book two, they raced through space, and spent some time on an alien planet. For book three, I needed a brand new frontier, and Earth’s vast oceans seemed the perfect setting for a new alien adventure. I really hope everyone enjoys Jess and David’s race through the sea, because the ocean has secrets, and some secrets don’t want to be found.

On to the reveal!

I have a review of the book for you plus there is a giveaway at the bottom that you can enter! But first let's learn more about the book...

NOBODY'S LADY

Author: Amy McNulty
Series: Never Veil #2
Source: eARC via the Publisher
Publisher: Month9Books
Publication Date: April 12, 2016
Rating: 4/5 stars

Summary:
For the first time in a thousand years, the men in Noll’s village possess the freedom to love whom they will. In order to give each man the chance to fully explore his feelings, the lord of the village decrees all marriages null and void until both spouses declare their love for one another and their desire to wed again. What many women think will be a simple matter becomes a source of village-wide tension as most men decide to leave their families and responsibilities behind.

Rejected by the lord and ashamed of her part in the village’s history, Noll withdraws from her family and lives life as an independent woodcarver. This changes when her sister accuses her of hiding her former husband Jurij from her—and when Jurij eventually does ask to move in. Determined not to make the same mistakes, Noll decides to support her male friends through their new emotional experiences, but she’s soon caught up in a darker plot than she ever dared imagine possible from the men she thought she knew so well. And the lord for whom she still has feelings may be hiding the most frightening truth of them all.

WARNING! This is the SECOND book in the series! You can see my review of the first book, NOBODY'S GODDESS. I do my best to be spoiler free but ... it's pretty hard with this one tbh. Be cautious!

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this one, more than NOBODY'S GODDESS, actually. This is well on it's way to becoming one of my favourite series because there is such a good overlap of great characters, romance, and magic that I am actively wanting more of all three rather than less of any of them. I like the way McNulty writes and the tone of this book: fear but hope wrapped up in a bit of anger and resentment. It came across quite nicely and I would recommend this series to anyone who wants to see what it means to really have a choice in how your life plays out.

Hello and welcome to my tour stop for FACSIMILE by Vicki L. Weavil! I am really excited to share my review for this book with you guys. As well, check out the bottom of this post for a giveaway!

First, let's learn more about the book...

FACSIMILE

Author: Vicki L. Weavil
Series: Facsimile #1
Publisher: Month9Books
Publication Date: March 8, 2016

Summary:
For a ticket to Earth, seventeen-year-old Anna-Maria “Ann” Solano is willing to jettison her birth planet, best friend, and the boy who loves her. Especially since all she’s required to do is escort Dace Keeling, a young naturalist, through the wilderness of the partially terraformed planet Eco. Ann‘s determination to escape the limitations of her small, frontier colony never falters, until Dace’s expeditions uncover three secrets. One offers riches, one shatters Ann’s perceptions of herself, and one reveals that the humans stranded on Eco are not its only inhabitants.

Ann’s willing to sacrifice friendship and love for a new life on Earth. But when an entire species is placed in jeopardy by her actions, she must make a choice – fulfill the dream that’s always sustained her, or save the planet she’s never considered home.

Rating: 3.5*

This was an honest-to-goodness science fiction novel and I loved it for that. There is lots of science, but not too much that it is difficult to understand. A lot of what we learn is already things we have at least a bit of basic knowledge of if you paid even minimal attention in science class. And that was great because I hate when things get too technical that the common person can't understand it. The one thing I love about Science Fiction is that it is for everyone, even if you don't have a vast knowledge of STEM. FACSIMILE really delivers on this front because you can completely understand everything that is happening without having to stop and think too much.

I love this cover because it reflects the book so well. The image of a girl standing alone on a desolate world is a perfect depiction of my protagonist, Ann, as well as her "sand over stone" world, Eco. But it's also symbolic, because although Ann isn't really alone, she often feels isolated on her frontier planet. The addition of the image of the Earth is also appropriately symbolic. Ann can't actually see the Earth from Eco, but since her goal is to live on Earth it's always on her mind, so the inclusion of the Earth image is a wonderful metaphor for her hopes and dreams.

28 September 0 Comments
MINOTAUR
Author: Phillip W. Simpson
Publication Date:  September 29, 2015
Publisher:  Month9books

Summary:
“Where shall I start?” asked Minotaur.

Ovid made an expansive gesture with both hands. “Where else but the beginning of course.”

Minotaur nodded his huge head. “Yes,” he said. “Yes,” his eyes already glazing over with the weight of thousand year old memories. And then he began.

So begins the story of Asterion, later known as Minotaur, the supposed half bull creature of Greek legend. Recorded by the famous Roman poet, Ovid, Asterion tells of his boyhood in Crete under the cruel hand of his stepfather Minos, his adventures with his friend, Theseus, and his growing love for the beautiful Phaedra. And of course what really happened in the labyrinth.

This is the true story of the Minotaur.

Nobody's-Goddess-Cover
 NOBODY'S GODDESS by Amy McNulty
In a village of masked men, magic compels each man to love only one woman and to follow the commands of his “goddess” without question. A woman may reject the only man who will love her if she pleases, but she will be alone forever. And a man must stay masked until his goddess returns his love—and if she can’t or won’t, he remains masked forever.
Seventeen-year-old Noll isn't in the mood to celebrate. Her childhood friends have paired off and her closest companion, Jurij, found his goddess in Noll’s own sister. Desperate to find a way to break this ancient spell, Noll instead discovers why no man has ever chosen her.
Thus begins a dangerous game between the choice of woman versus the magic of man. And the stakes are no less than freedom and happiness, life and death—and neither is willing to lose.
