Dragon Ball: Fortuneteller Baba Saga by Akira Toriyama

Dragon Ball: Fortuneteller Baba Saga by Akira Toriyama

This review covers Chapters 97-112 (Volumes 9 and 10) in the Dragon Ball series.

Goodreads Synopsis
This installment shows us the last stage of Goku's quest to find the seven Dragon Balls, and his training for the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament.

Introduced in this saga are a lot of villains that Goku has to get through in order to find the remaining dragon balls. However, this saga feels a bit repetitive. A lot of the same events we saw in the Emperor Pilaf saga are now being done in this saga, with a bit of a twist. The villains are harder to defeat for Goku and really test his strength; the end result remains the same though.

I still think Toriyama is an exceptional artist and writer and really makes the action come alive on the page. But the same story tends to get a bit boring after a while, so I do hope things get shaken up a bit in the next saga that will allow Goku to really test his strength and his mind. I'm excited to move onto the next saga and arc to see what happens there!

Overall: 3.5/5 for this saga. I did like that Goku allowed Upa to resurrect Bora and still got his dragon ball, but I think there could have been more character depth and less action in this saga to get to it.
