Top Ten Tuesday (20): Top Ten Books I Wish I Could Read Again for the First Time

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. See all the posts every week by clicking on the link to read their blog!

Today's prompt for Top Ten Tuesday is "Books I Wish I Could Read Again for the First Time" and I have sooo many of these! I always wish I could forget books once I finish them or a series so I have the joy of reading them all over again.

Sometimes I wonder, though, if I read a book again and didn't remember it, if I would like it as much as the first time around. What if I didn't like it the next time.

These books are a mix of nostolgia for some books that I read when I was younger, or some books that really changed my perspective, and others that just changed the course of a story.

With that existential crisis in mind, here's the list of books I wish I could read again!

Summary:
A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond...

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.

Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all—the Crown Prince Aldrik—she finds herself enticed into his world.

Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.

Why I Wish I Could Read It Again for the First Time...

I think this is a bit of nostalgia for me. Air Awakens is one of the first indie series that I read as a blogger and I absolutely loved it! The world building, the romance, the magic - all of it was so lush and wonderful. I have read it again since reading it for the first time and it still holds up for me.

I loved that this mixed so many aspects of fantasy together to create the world. The premise felt a little like Avatar: The Last Air Bender to me but I loved that show so I obviously had no difficulty with that. I thought the pacing of the book was really good, it started off very quickly and while Vhalla tried to slow down the inevitable of being a sorcerer, her magic kept blossoming and growing. I liked the idea that magic was seen as something to fear rather than something that everyone celebrated.

Since then, I have followed Elise Kova's career - even being the Rivet Guild lead for THE ALCHEMISTS OF LOOM and starting a Goodreads Fan Club for Air Awakens. I absolutely love everything that has come since, and Kova's work has only gotten stronger over time culminating with her Married to Magic series.

I highly recommend checking out this series, Kova's work, and working through her extensive body of works. Each is better than the next, so I hope you enjoy!

What are some books you would like to read again for the first time? Do any of our books overlap?

  2. It is really interesting how our view of certain books can change over time. I've re-read some after many years and still loved them and I've re-read others and wondered why I liked it so much the first time! LOL. I guess there really is nothing like the first time you read a book.

    Happy TTT!

  4. You have shared very interesting information. I have read some of these books and loved all of them. I want to read others', but first I have to find a professional dissertation writing service for my sister. She is very nervous because the dissertation could affect her graduation, but I promise I will read them later.
