Summary:
Deep below a desolate Utah mountain lies the largest platinum deposit ever discovered. A billion-dollar find, it waits for any company that can drill a world's record, three-mile-deep mine shaft.

EarthCore is the company with the technology, the resources and the guts to go after the mother lode. Young executive Connell Kirkland is the company's driving force, pushing himself and those around him to uncover the massive treasure.

But at three miles below the surface, where the rocks are so hot they burn bare skin, something has been waiting for centuries. Waiting ...and guarding. Kirkland and EarthCore are about to find out first-hand why this treasure has never been unearthed.

I don't think this was the book for me. There were a lot of really terrible, unlikeable characters which I usually am okay with but they were just SO BAD that I couldn't get around it. There were no redeeming qualities about any of the characters which doesn't make sense to me. We don't need the Amazing One Character but to have every character be a general piece of shit? No thanks.

The most interesting part was learning about the other "culture." I liked seeing the different aspects of how the characters learned about them, how they evolved, and everything in between. I wish there had been like a perspective from one of the aliens at some point but honestly I probably would have hated them too.

I generally like when the characters aren't likeable but they have to have some redeeming qualities. These characters just did not. And even with the "redeeming" arc I still wanted all of them to die. I didn't want anyone to make it out alive. They didn't deserve to live.

And the ending? With the "revenge"? I rolled my eyes. Like give me a break. Honestly if it weren't for how interesting the culture of the aliens were and learning more about them, I probably wouldn't have continued listening to this audiobook. If you want a good Science Fiction book, I would suggest something else instead.
