Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between by Jennifer E. Smith

Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between by Jennifer E. Smith

Goodreads Synopsis
On the night before they leave for college, Clare and Aidan only have one thing left to do: figure out whether they should stay together or break up. Over the course of twelve hours, they'll retrace the steps of their relationship, trying to find something in their past that might help them decide what their future should be. The night will lead them to friends and family, familiar landmarks and unexpected places, hard truths and surprising revelations. But as the clock winds down and morning approaches, so does their inevitable goodbye. The question is, will it be goodbye for now or goodbye forever?

This new must-read novel from Jennifer E. Smith, author of The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight, explores the difficult choices that must be made when life and love lead in different directions.

This one was so so good. I don't even have words to explain how much I enjoyed this one, but I am going to do my best to write down how I am feeling about it.

Aidan and Clare were like the perfect couple and you know what I mean by that. But I loved every second of it. I liked going to all the different places they had their firsts and living through them for a second, third, or one hundredth time with them. It was such an intimate experience for me because I felt everything they were feeling. It was so wonderful.

There were some stops that I was kind of meh about because I didn't find that they served a real purpose in bringing us closer to any type of conclusion in respect to figuring out whether or not Clare and Aidan would stay together. I did like that at some points they both balanced each other out in terms of being logical and reasonable about whether or not they should stay together. I thought their last night together was the perfect way to say goodbye to someone you really care about.

I would have liked to see more of Stella and Scotty because while Aidan/Clare was the most important person in the other's life, Stella and Scotty were still their best friends and it makes sense to spend some time with your best friend the night before you leave to move across the country to go to school. And all of them were going in different directions! Plus, Stella and Scotty seemed to be so interesting, I would have liked them to be a bit more fleshed out as their own characters instead of stepping stones in Clare and Aidan's story.

I thought the ending was perfect (and I'm really glad I didn't click on that part first because I would have been so disappointed). But I thought it was realistic and it felt as if this entire scenario could happen and wasn't overly exaggerated. It was just wonderful.

Overall: 4/5 stars because I cried at the end since I flipflopped along the way about whether or not I wanted them to stay together.
