Jesse's Girl by Miranda Kenneally
Goodreads Synopsis
Practice Makes Perfect.
Everyone at Hundred Oaks High knows that career mentoring day is a joke. So when Maya Henry said she wanted to be a rock star, she never imagined she’d get to shadow *the* Jesse Scott, Nashville’s teen idol.
But spending the day with Jesse is far from a dream come true. He’s as gorgeous as his music, but seeing all that he’s accomplished is just a reminder of everything Maya’s lost: her trust, her boyfriend, their band, and any chance to play the music she craves. Not to mention that Jesse’s pushy and opinionated. He made it on his own, and he thinks Maya’s playing back up to other people’s dreams. Does she have what it takes to follow her heart—and go solo?
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was one of my favourite ARCs I have read. This love story is good for a beach read since it is quick and easy!
I liked Maya and Jesse's easy banter and wit between the two of them. I liked the alluding to Ferris Bueller's Day Off which is easily one of my favourite 80's movies of all time. I loved living their day together and really enjoyed reading about the two of them falling in love. It was nice that it wasn't a total insta-love for them and that they took things slow and let them build. It was a nice change of pace from the typical insta-love stories I've been reading lately. It felt realistic, except for the fact that it would never happen to me because I don't know any famous rock stars but here's to never letting hope die.
Maya was such an interesting character. It was nice to see her break out of her shell after meeting and spending time with Jesse. I don't think anything fundamentally changed with her -- she just needed a push in the right direction, which is exactly what Jesse gave her. She was already talented and smart and witty before Jesse, he just gave her the opportunity to showcase it and I think that is really important here.
In the same manner, it was nice to see that Maya affected Jesse in a similar way. He had some issues in his back story and it was nice to see that he took Maya's advice and didn't just automatically write her off because she was female and/or didn't know him. I liked watching their friendship develop over the course of the day and I feel like I can pinpoint the exact moment the two of them fell for the other.
Without spoiling the ending, I'm glad Maya left it as weighing her options. I think it is smart for her to understand there are more than one way for her to achieve her dream and in my mind she definitely does.
Overall: 4/5 stars! I really liked this one. It was the perfect blend of cute and fun.

I loved this book so much! It was so sweet and cute and funny. I also thought that the ending was really well done, even if it wasn't what I was expecting during the middle of the story. I enjoyed the way that they helped each other, and even though this book had some questionable theological things, I ended up really liking it as well. Great review!
