Welcome to the first quarterly update for
Science Fiction and Fantasy Fridays!
If this is your first time here, Science Fiction and Fantasy Fridays is my Friday Feature where I discuss Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy! So much of what I grew up reading was Adult SFF that I wanted to make sure I showcased it now that I'm actually an adult. From recommendations to reviews, I give you a wide variety of reading materials.See below for the last three months of reviews, features, and some Instagram posts! Plus, I give you a behind the scenes look at what will be featured in the upcoming months here on Books and Ladders.
Reviews and Features
- A CONJURING OF LIGHT by V.E. Schwab
OMG. This blew me away. A fantasy of truly epic proportions.
- THE QUEEN OF BLOOD by Sarah Beth Durst
This was one of those books that didn't have any one large thing wrong with it that made me dislike it but a bunch of little things that added up to make it meh.
- HOUNDED by Kevin Hearne
I liked a lot of pieces to this one and didn't enjoy others, especially the aspects that you find all too often in Fantasy books written by men.
- SORCERER TO THE CROWN by Zen Cho
The characters are SO strong and the magic SO interesting that it made up for the prose!
- THE TRUE QUEEN by Zen Cho
THE TRUE QUEEN has magic, mayhem, and strong female characters that you root for the whole way through.
- MEM by Bethany C. Morrow
I really enjoyed this one and thought there was so much good conversation about "true" selves and what constitutes "yourself."
- PHOENIX UNBOUND by Grace Draven
I love the magic and, especially, the world building. I liked seeing how Gilene's magic worked and interacted with the world around her.
Thanks for sharing! I really want to try Elise Kova and V.E. Schwab. I've heard good things about both authors.
