The penultimate book in the series and one that kept me on the edge of my seat, but the first 75% of the book didn't add much to the story in my opinion. Everything came down to the last 70 pages and Alex's decisions in these pages. I still am unclear about what Lucy's plan was though? Her and Zee went to get the army and Alex and Simon were supposed to go kill Furnace? Not really much of a plan and not as elaborate as it was led to believe.

Honestly, if Donovan gets mentioned one more time though, I'm going to be upset. I was already devastated by the wasted potential of his character, but to keep mentioning him and how it would be so different if he was still around is just reminder after reminder that he is gone and that it was a waste of a character.

I'm glad the Warden is out of the series now, he was interesting in the first two novels but then lost his appeal to me after Solitary. I feel as though Simon isn't even in these novels anymore because he doesn't do anything useful or bring the plot further along. In all honesty, none of the characters do that -- until the end of the book when Alex does something finally.

I am getting sick of waiting on Alfred Furnace. I think he should have been seen in that final scene so that we were left being like "yes this guy does exist" -- I am very pleased with the ending though. I think it was a worthwhile read because of this ending and cliffhanger. I can't wait to get to the next novel.

Overall: 4/5 stars. Such a thriller and twist, but still a lot of the same running from terror until you have to confront the enemy as we have seen in this series before.
