Summary:
From debut author Goldy Moldavsky, the story of four superfan friends whose devotion to their favorite boy band has darkly comical and murderous results.
Okay, so just know from the start that it wasn't supposed to go like this. All we wanted was to get near The Ruperts, our favorite boy band.
We didn't mean to kidnap one of the guys. It kind of, sort of happened that way. But now he's tied up in our hotel room. And the worst part of all, it's Rupert P. All four members of The Ruperts might have the same first name, but they couldn't be more different. And Rupert P. is the biggest flop out of the whole group.
We didn't mean to hold hostage a member of The Ruperts, I swear. At least, I didn't. We are fans. Okay, superfans who spend all of our free time tweeting about the boys and updating our fan tumblrs. But so what, that's what you do when you love a group so much it hurts.
How did it get this far? Who knows. I mean midterms are coming up. I really do not have time to go to hell.
Honestly I'm not quite sure what to think about this one. It is for sure laugh out loud funny, but I also love how gritty and real it was. I really liked how Moldavsky portrayed the life of fangirls because it isn't always as glamorous as popular culture makes it out to be. These four girls are the EPITOME of fangirls in my opinion. And they weren't stereotypes of fangirls either. I have been there, I have done all the things these girls have done. Well ... not all ... But most.
I loved the story. I loved how everything happened and trying to figure out what actually happened during the course of the story. I think it was interesting to see the good and bad of all the characters in the light of this specific event. It's pretty hard to describe why I liked this one so much without giving part of the plot away. But let me just say that I love the direction it took and how the girls tried to deal with it. Then I loved how the boys dealt with it because it was HILARIOUS. Like I was giggling on my couch and had my parents look at me like I was crazy. And then I tried to explain it and they were like "Jamie WTF ARE YOU READING??" but it was so worth it.
The only thing I would have liked is a bit more out of the conclusion. It felt like a bit of a cop out because nothing really happened. Everything was just sort of "forgotten" in a sense and I didn't like that. I would have liked more consequences from this story rather than what we got because real life has more consequences. Even just reprimand from parents would have been better than what we got. Otherwise, it was a great story and I highly recommend picking it up. Especially if you fangirl hardcore over something because you will really resonate with these characters. Hopefully you never find yourself in this situation though....
Yay, so glad you liked this one! One thing that confused me was the cover.. I was sure it was a temp and then I saw the hardcover and it looks the same.. so weird. Great review!
ReplyDeleteHmmm...I don't know... When a book has an ending that doesn't feel complete or had an abrupt ending with no fitting closure (or as you referred to it, consequence) it makes me think, "What, that's it? Seriously?",& that kinda bugs me. That said, being a serious fangirl myself, I'm very tempted by your review to check it ,out. The name and synopsis in themselves are pretty hilarious soooo, yeah. I think I'll probably go ahead and put this one on my TBR. Thank you for the review, Jaime!
