I originally was not going to read this book. The blurb did not sound interesting to me because it sounded super predictable (which it was). But it was $1.99 on Kobo so I said what the hell.

I was genuinely surprised at how much I liked this. Lara Jean was a static character, but I have a craving for fake relationship novels. Those are my go-to fics and this one was perfect. I love the build up of them! From the "we are just doing this to make someone else jealous" to the "oh shit I think I like you" to the "oh no you don't like me so I am going to call this off" to the "oh we both actuallylike each other and are idiots". But in all honesty, I liked it so much because of Peter Kavinsky. He played his part perfectly and I would love to read this story from his point of view.

I wasn't a fan of the sister relationship in this one, it felt forced and awkward. Their "blow up" and subsequent make up at the end was a little ridiculous to me, to be honest. It seemed like the author was just looking for another way to isolate Lara Jean before she had a realization about what she should actually be doing with her life. I feel like there wasn't enough character development of her sister to have it be such a big deal that Lara Jean and her were fighting over a guy. It didn't seem to fit into their relationship as it was explained in the novel.

If you don't like cheesy, super predictable, contemporary young adult novels, you will hate this. But if you love fake relationship stories as much as me, this is one you should pick up for sure.

Overall: 4/5 stars because of Peter Kavinsky and my favourite trope in the world: fake relationships.
