UNICORN TRACKS

Author: Julia Ember
Publisher: Harmony Ink Press
Publication Date: April 21, 2016

Summary:
After a savage attack drives her from her home, sixteen-year-old Mnemba finds a place in her cousin Tumelo’s successful safari business, where she quickly excels as a guide. Surrounding herself with nature and the mystical animals inhabiting the savannah not only allows Mnemba’s tracking skills to shine, it helps her to hide from the terrible memories that haunt her.

Mnemba is employed to guide Mr. Harving and his daughter, Kara, through the wilderness as they study unicorns. The young women are drawn to each other, despite that fact that Kara is betrothed. During their research, they discover a conspiracy by a group of poachers to capture the Unicorns and exploit their supernatural strength to build a railway. Together, they must find a way to protect the creatures Kara adores while resisting the love they know they can never indulge.

Welcome, Friends.

I am Tumelo Nzeogwu, owner and founder of the White Smoke Safari Lodge.  Here, we have a simple moto: Dangerous Days and Decadent Nights. We believe every day you spend in Nazwimbe should be an adventure, filled with (controlled) risks and exciting encounters. But in the evenings, you should have a luxurious place to relax and feel at home.

We employ the best guides in the country and close encounters with griffins, chimeras and unicorns are almost guaranteed.

For as long as you are staying with us, our home is your home. Let me show you around?

Tumelo Nzeogwu

We work hard here at White Smoke to make sure your accommodation reflects the very best Nazwimbe has to offer. During your stay, your spacious hut will be furnished with items made locally.

Your room will be cleaned daily to the highest standard and we invite you to sample our local cuisine.

White Smoke adheres to a very strict no hunting policy. In Nazwimbe, our animals are very important to us and we believe in respecting them, and our land. We are sorry, but we cannot cater for game hunters at this time. You can expect to see a huge variety of creatures here in Nazwimbe – ranging from the beautiful zebra to the great mpacasa herds.

Each day after a sumptuous breakfast, your guide will collect you from your hut after dawn. Nazwimbe farmers produce some of the world’s best coffee and we will bring some to you at your hut to enjoy. While the sun is still rising, the guide will help you select a suitable horse from our stables. We are fully equipped with all equipment you will need. While we do have side-saddles for ladies, we recommend visiting ladies embrace our local tradition and ride astride for comfort and mobility. Each horse will also be kitted with a pack of food, water and a sketchbook for your enjoyment.*

Once on the trails, your guide will lead you on a harrowing adventure! As we employ only the best guides, you should rest assured that you are in good hands. Your guide is skilled at finding game, helping you to find safe vantage points and if necessary, in the use of rifle.

Due to our guides skills, we are able to offer special tours for researchers and scientists hoping to get a look at a particular species.

*Regretfully, due to the nature of our excursions and the proximity to the wild creatures, we cannot accommodate beginner riders at this time. We are not responsible for persons who may incur injuries due to overstating riding ability.

After a long day’s ride, you will undoubtedly wish to relax in comfort. We will have an evening meal prepared for you on your return as well as a steaming bath, filled with the purest of river waters. Many of our guests from Franklin and further afield, have commented that Nazwimbe water is the freshest on the planet.

We offer a variety of evening entertainment such as local performers, dances and card games. We would be honoured to teach you some of our traditional games, though be prepared, many involve betting and our guides will not shy away from beating you!
